Screen capture of Meow Mix Sweepstakes error message. They could give me time to get out to the kitchen for the UPC code plus feed whatever animals got in the way as I tried to get back to the computer with it. Sheesh.

TFTD - Gun Control

“Baseball bats are now the preferred weapon for many drug gangs and others who have a business need to administer behavioral reminders. They’re cheap, lethal, legal, untraceable, and hey! it’s the national pastime.” — George Carlin

Bad Alice

Any day that starts with an email from someone named “Bad Alice” simply has to be a great day! Bad Alice is the acoustic duo formed by Suzy Johnston (author of The Naked Bird Watcher – the positive account of developing and learning to manage a serious psychiatric disorder that included depression, psychosis and self-harm) Leslie interjects: The other half of the duo is Lindsay Robertson. So far as I can tell, she is horribly normal except when she gets a hold of a box of crayons. The CD by Bad Alice is now available. Titled ‘Walk in my Shoes’ it is a further positive and reflective message on mental illness, self-harm and the issues that face the young of today. The CD is available on the Bad Alice website where individual tracks can also be downloaded. http://www.badalicemusic.com The hope is that the music will help people to feel less isolated and offer reassurance that they can get through this. Sandisk Memory and Alzheimers

SanDisk Takes Action Against Alzheimers For some reason, Sandisk believes that selling special purple flash memory will fix Alzheimers. I have no idea why I think this is funny. I fully expect to spend the last few years of my life not remembering from moment to moment what I am doing. Oh, look, a plate of half-eaten something I don’t know the name of… should I eat it? Shudder. They’re going to find out that Alzheimers is caused by a low-fat diet. Those plaques? They land in the empty spaces left behind when the brain – which is largely fat – melts away. Sandisk was one of the major backers of the Secure Digital card format. I recommend the product highly, no matter what color it is.

Tagging Meatspace

I’ve been playing with the .mobi stuff and discovered that 2D codes have a use other than to count packs of cigarettes. I can put my web site URL into a QR-Code or a ShotCode, print it on stickers, and stick the stickers to things. Then folks can point their cellphone cameras at the code block and the URL will show up in their phone as a clickable hypertext link. I was thinking I could sell my bumperstickers that way, put the QR-Code on them. There is a nice java app for cell phones at QuickMark Mobile Barcode – Web Site QuickMark . This app also reads SemaCode . Some fun! QR-Code even has error correction built in so that if the code block is torn or partly obliterated the app can still get the information out of it. Create your own code with the QR-Code Generator . Another 2D code is ShotCode . This one is targeted for advertisers. You have the option of logging all kinds of information about the cell phone and user.

TFTD: Religious Extremists

The common dogma [of fundamentalists] is fear of modern knowledge, inability to cope with the fast change in a scientific-technological society, and the real breakdown in apparent moral order in recent years…. That is why hate is the major fuel, fear is the cement of the movement, and superstitious ignorance is the best defense against the dangerous new knowledge. … When you bring up arguments that cast serious doubts on their cherished beliefs you are not simply making a rhetorical point, you are threatening their whole Universe and their immortality. That provokes anger and quite frequently violence. … Unfortunately you cannot reason with them and you even risk violence in confronting them. Their numbers will decline only when society stabilizes, and adapts to modernity. G Gaia, AOL Member Quoted on Wisdomquotes.com
